Officer Greer honored

A Wilmington police officer that was injured in the line of duty was honored Thursday afternoon.

Officer Christopher Greer was awarded with $1,000 from the Officer Down Fund, a financial assistance program for law enforcement and rescue personnel.

Officer Greer was injured in October, when his car hydroplaned and crashed in to a tree while responding to a breaking and entering call.

He broke two vertebrae in his neck, two fingers and injured his right leg. It was his first solo patrol.

“It’s nice, not so much the monetary part…to be appreciated and to feel that the community appreciates what me, and others like me do every day,” Officer Greer said.

Officer Greer is now back on patrol.

Officer Down is funded by motorcycle rides. The next ride is Saturday starting at the Harley Davidson on Market St. and concluding in Southport.
