Officials investigating after dog found shot, beaten

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Columbus County Animal Control is investigating after officers found a bull dog mix that appears to have been shot.

Officers found the dog in Riegelwood area near the Bladen County line after receiving a 911 call. On top of being shot, it appears the dog was hit multiple times with a blunt object. Officers believe the animal was left for dead.

The dog was taken to the veterinarian and receiving treatment, but Animal Control Manager Joey Prince says things don’t look good.

Animal Control released photos of the dog and its injuries, but WWAY has decided they are too graphic to show. The dog appears to be white with brown ears and some more brown coloring on its torso and tail.

Officers are following leads at this time, but if you know anything call Animal Control at (910) 641-3945.
