Ogden MarketPlace developer withdraws rezoning petition
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY)– New Hanover County Planning and Zoning Supervisor Ben Andrea says the Atlanta-based Halpern Development Company withdrew its petition to rezone property for a grocery store.
In February the company submitted the re-zoning petition to construct the first reported Publix in the Wilmington area in the Ogden MarketPlace. This month the company withdrew that petition. Andrea says he does not know why.
Another New Orleans based developer also applied to the City of Wilmington in February to put a grocery store on Bragg Drive. The 46,031 square foot store is sketched on Bragg Drive behind the Bank of America on South College Rd and just up the street from Food Lion. The proposal does not say what kind of grocery store it will be. That company has not gotten back with us to confirm what kind of grocery store it will be.
A Publix spokeswoman says, “We are always reviewing potential sites in order to best serve our customers. However, we do not comment on sites without signed leases.”
