One dead in early morning crash

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Officials are investigating a fatal crash that happened early Friday morning in Brunswick County.

According to Brunswick County Dispatch, a report of a vehicle fire came in around 12:19 a.m. Leland Fire Dept., Highway Patrol and the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene.

Trooper Chavis with Highway Patrol says it happened along River Road near Mellaney Lane. He says it was a single car crash.

One person has been confirmed dead; however the identity has not been released.

River Road is back open to drivers.
