ONLY ON 3: Mother speaks about Bladen teen’s death

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The mother of a Bladen County teen found dead says she does not believe her son took his own life.

Claudia Lacy, the mother of West Bladen football player Lennon Lacy, said in an interview Tuesday that more needs to be done in her son’s investigation.

Lennon Lacy was found hanging from a swing set in late August; officials said there were no signs of foul play. In an autopsy released Monday, the cause of death was from asphyxia due to hanging. The autopsy describes injuries around Lacy’s neck consistent with the cut noose sent to the medical examiner with the body.

“A parent is supposed to be buried by her children,” Lennon’s mother Claudia Lacy said.

Devastated, Claudia says she was shocked when Bladenboro police told her they found her son Lennon hanging from a swing set just a few blocks from their home.

“It doesn’t make sense,” Claudia said.

She says the night before his death Lennon had been packing up his gym bag for his Friday night football game.

“This was the first game of the year and he was excited about it, ready for it.”

The autopsy says it had been reported that Lennon was depressed from his uncle’s recent death. Lennon’s brother Pierre says he was upset about it, but not depressed.

“He never showed any signs of being depressed and my brother is not a good liar,” Pierre said.

Pierre says he has several unanswered questions about the investigation.

“The shoes that were on his feet didn’t belong to him,” Pierre said. “They were a size too small. They were all white Nike’s with no laces.”

Pierre says the Jordan’s Lennon was wearing are now missing. Claudia says she took pictures of the body at the funeral, because she had concerns about marks on Lennon’s face.

“He has a big contusion on top of his head and a whip across his face,” Claudia said. “He didn’t have that when he left.”

Claudia says the autopsy attributes these marks to ants, but she says she believes this was not a suicide.

“It was something,” Claudia said. “It was not him doing it to himself. I would truly say it was a murder, accidental or not yes. If it’s suicide, I understand. I can accept that, but explain to me how.”

Claudia says she wants closure for herself and the community.

“I just hope justice prevails and they find out why this happened,” Claudia said. If they can’t, then explain to me how he committed suicide where he was found. At least do that, so I can have some closure.”

The investigation is still ongoing, but the family says if you know anything please call the Bladenboro Police Department.
