ONLY ON 3: SBI done with Leland PD probe

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — The SBI is done with its investigation into the Leland Police Department, but the results have not been finalized.

According to a SBI spokeswoman, the investigation is complete, but now has to be reviewed.

Special prosecutors within the Attorney General’s office will now look over the results of the investigation to decide if there should be any criminal charges.

Last year, Brunswick County District Attorney Jon David asked the AG’s office to oversee the investigation and serve as the prosecutor for any potential charges.

The SBI investigation started back in November after WWAY uncovered a host of issues within the Leland Police Department that eventually led to the firing of Chief Tim Jayne and three other officers.
