ONLY ON 3: Victim’s friends react to deadly Leland accident
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — The friends of Jonathan Clark are speaking out about this weekend’s car crash that killed Clark and his girlfriend Anika Aikman.
Clark and Aikman were passengers in a car that hit a tree in Leland’s Magnolia Greens neighborhood early Saturday morning and split in half. The driver, Eric Hill, has been charged with their deaths.
According to friends Tori Wayland and Brett Toney it’s surprising that Clark was in a drunk driving accident because he hardly ever drank. Wayland said Clark was very cautious and would even take her keys if she drank, so she was shocked to hear he had been in this type of accident.
Both Wayland and Toney agree that Clark was a fierce friend and always someone they could rely on.
“He was like my brother,” Toney said. “I’d have done anything for him, and he’d have done anything for me. Out of all my friends, he was the only one I could say was there every time I needed him.”
Clark’s friends said he and Aikman were a perfect pair and madly in love.
“What they had was something special. It really was. You don’t see that often,” Toney said.
Wayland says mourning will be a process, but she will always look back fondly on all the time she spent with Clark, who she called her best friend.
