ONLY ON 3: Wilmington father loses kids to Social Services
WILMINGTON, NC — Steven Alfano has had five kids removed from him by the New Hanover County Department of Social Services in the past few months.
According to Alfano, the children were taken because of a case of what the DSS thought was negligence. This case surrounds his daughter Sara Alfano.
“Her development was coming along slowly but surely. She’s a pre-mature twin,” said Alfano. “She was 1 pound 15 ounces at birth on 7/10/2008, we nourished her and brought her to a point of existence at this moment.”
Alfano says she continued to develop slowly. In May of 2011 she was admitted to the hospital, where he says she weighed 13 pounds at nearly 3 years old.
According to Alfano, he constantly fed Sara.
“I have seen the food that he has gone to get and brought back home,” says neighbor David Johnson. “He’s never been a man that would neglect his kids.”
Alfano says that because of the issues surrounding his daughter Sara, and another incident in which he admits he was involved with drugs, that his other kids were taken away from him.
The DSS said they cannot comment about any of their cases, including this case.
Steven Alfano says he is due in court September 12 and 13 in regards to these events.
