ONLY ON 3: Bat causes court chaos during high school hoops game

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A high school state playoff game became the scene of some chaos on the court Friday evening when a what looked like a bat made an appearance in the gym.

The winged animal took the spotlight at tip-off during the West Bladen-Southwest Onslow boys basketball game at West Bladen High School.

Earlier this month, a rivalry game had to be moved to another location because a custodian saw bats in the gym. The Health Department was called in, and the bat problem was supposedly dealt with so that the West Bladen High School gym could be used again Friday night.

We’ve chosen not to show some of the video, but in it you do see someone with a broom knock the animal out of the air and then, with the same broom, hit it again, apparently killing it. It was removed from the floor, and the game resumed.

WWAY did reach out to a school spokeswoman, but we have not heard back yet for comment.
