ONLY ON WWAY: Woman found severely injured in ditch

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A night of drinking and playing cards turned into an investigation after a woman was found in a ditch on the side of the road in Bladen County.

“You know, you don’t do nobody like that,” victim’s cousin, Monā said. “You just threw her out there and left her like she’s some kind of animal, stray dog or something.”

The Bladen County woman was found severely injured Saturday morning in a ditch on Twisted Hickory Road and Center Road near Elizabethtown.

“The guy was coming past, he was cutting the grass and he’s the one that actually found her out there,” Monā said. “So no telling how long she would have stayed if he would have not came through.”

We are not identifying the victim but she did speak to WWAY.

The victim said a family member was taking her home but she never made it there. She said she could not remember much about that night.

The Bladen County Sheriff’s office said the woman was found with her pants down and was possibly sexually assaulted.

“It’s just crazy I don’t get why you would do anyone like that,” Monā said.

The victim has a broken pelvis, leg and ankle.

“Why leave her in a ditch lying where no one would be able to, you know, you thought no one would find her,” Monā said.

Investigators said the victim’s injuries are consistent with being hit by a car. However, they are still investigating that possibility.

As for the victim and her family, they just want answers and justice.

“Come forward, just bring yourself forward. You know you did it so just turn yourself in,” Monā said.

The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office sent off a rape kit but there is no word on when they will get the results back.

As for the family member the victim said is possibly involved in the incident, detectives said they were interviewed Thursday.

The investigation is still underway.
