Opera Wilmington offers behind-the-scenes look at new production
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It didn’t matter if you were an opera fan or a newcomer to the theatre, all were welcome to get a peek behind-the-scenes of Opera Wilmington’s newest production Saturday.
Visitors were invited to check out the set, the costume shop and the rehearsal room. Some of the cast members even demonstrated a few of the performances that will be in this year’s production: Die Fledermaus.
Michelle Lerch is playing a maid named Adele in the opera. She hopes that Saturday’s event will spark an interest in some of the young people in attendance.
“I think music is a really important part of children’s development,” Lerch said. “It opens up this creativity and I hope some of the kids see this and say, ‘wow, that’s something I can do one day and I hope I can get the training and go there and be an opera singer.”
Those who attended also got to meet the winners of Opera Wilmington’s “Dress Your Dog Like A Bat” contest.
There will be four performances of this year’s opera: July 20, 22, 27 and 29.
