OPERATION GRIDLOCK: Is I-140 faster than Market St. to get downtown?

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Operation Gridlock continues tonight with another shortcut around one of the most congested areas in Wilmington.

This time, WWAY weekend anchor Hannah Patrick teamed up with the Gareth McGrath from the StarNews to find the quickest route from Porters Neck to downtown Wilmington during the morning rush hour.

Hannah will take Market Street to MLK. Gareth will take I-140.

Hannah’s route is about 12 miles, but it is considered the 11th most congested stretch in Wilmington with three hot spots. Fourty-five thousand cars drive through it every day.

Gareth is taking the shortcut, but his route is 17 miles long. He will take I-140 to US 421 over the Isabel Holmes Bridge to 3rd Street.

Tune in to WWAY News at 6:00 to see which route was significantly faster.

We have tested out three shortcuts around Wilmington with the StarNews so far, but we want to hear from you. Send us routes you want us to try by emailing Hannah at hpatrick@wwaytv3.com.

You can find the full story about all the shortcuts in our area on Sunday, Nov. 27 in the StarNews.
