Police: Overdosing man strikes ambulance in Wilmington
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY/StarNews) — A man who reportedly overdosed behind the wheel on Saturday crashed into three vehicles, including an ambulance with a patient inside.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, Terry Lee Ramsey, 31, apparently suffered a heroin overdose Saturday evening while driving in the 800 block of South Third Street. New Hanover County jail records show the incident happened at 6:58 p.m.
After overdosing, Ramsey reportedly caused a three-vehicle crash in the area. Wilmington police spokeswoman Jennifer Dandron said that among the vehicles struck was a New Hanover Regional Medical Center ambulance transporting a patient.
Dandron said that responding officers found several bags of heroin and drug paraphernalia in Ramsey’s vehicle.
Ramsey was charged with DWI, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving to endanger and driving while license revoked.
