Highway back open after log truck overturns

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — An overturned log truck shut down part of Highway 17 running through Brunswick County this afternoon. The accident was in Winnabow near the 39 mile marker.

According to Sheriff John Ingram’s Facebook page traffic was diverted up the I-140 bypass due to the wreck. He advised that if drivers were traveling south on HWY 17 that they take HWY 74 to Maco Rd. instead.

The highway fully reopened before 3 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office. Troopers said the driver of the rig, Anthony Godwin, was trapped inside the truck and was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition late this afternoon.
