Owner of damaged sailboat awarded money from state

The owner of a sailboat damaged by the Wrightsville Beach drawbridge has been awarded money from the state.

Sterling Stevenson’s sailboat was damaged last month when the drawbridge came down on top of his mast.

He estimated the cost of the damage to be more than $50,000.

North Carolina Wildlife investigated the incident and turned their report over to the state attorney general’s office, which awarded Stevenson.

The exact dollar amount has not been disclosed.
