Pack-a-thon to feed thousands
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Today high school students at Wilmington Christian Academy took some time out of class to pack up meals for people in need around the world.
Students began collecting money at the beginning of the year to buy food for the Feed the Hunger organization. They have a contest between grades to encourage everyone to raise money. This year students were able to raise enough money to make 21,000 meals.
High School Activities Coordinator, Tonya Upton, said that this event is incredibly rewarding every year.
“Watching them enjoy giving of themselves is, I can’t describe. Because that is what we want them to learn. It’s not all about us. And for them to see needs of others around the world and then work to meet those needs, that’s so rewarding,” said Upton.
Upton said that although the students were not in the classroom for a few hours, they took something away that is just as valuable.
