Pair arrested for break-ins now charged in shooting
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A pair already facing numerous felony charges for break-ins in three counties is now charged in a shooting investigation from November.
Sgt. Jerry Brewer with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office said James Edison Smallwood Jr., 34, and Kimberly Marie Mayhew, 27, are both charged in the incident at the 4900 block of Lord Tennyson Road on November 12. Brewer said both suspects were involved in shooting into that home. Both are facing charges including discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling.
Both Smallwood and Mayhew are in the Brunswick County Jail on breaking and entering charges. The pair is accused of breaking into more than 100 homes in Pender, New Hanover and Brunswick Counties.
