Parents still concerned about lack of midwives

Concerned parents continue to ask, where is my midwife? Only now, they are in a new spot.

Women upset about Carolina OB/GYN discontinuing its midwifery service, protested outside the office Tuesday. Some expecting mothers even painted their bellies to get their point across.

Carolina OB/GYN employed two of Wilmington’s three certified nurse midwives, and recently announced it is getting rid of their services.

Midwife supporter Beverly Maierson said, “Everyone has doctors, but a more personal relationship with your midwife is what I had and it’s just so important to us. Everyone should have the choice at least to have a midwife.”

The protesters spent last week in front of New Hanover Regional Medical Center and will spend this rest of this week outside Carolina OB/GYN on 17th Street.
