Part of Front Street back open to traffic
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Front Street between Market and Princess Streets in Downtown Wilmington is back open to traffic. The area reopened to foot traffic April 9. During that time you could find many people enjoying the open street. Now that car traffic is back, the games have ended.
The owner of Momentum Surf and Skate is glad construction was done in a timely matter. He thinks it looks great, but he misses the days of no cars.
“I think it would bring a lot of business downtown if they put some posts up right here at the intersection; block traffic off from 5 p.m. Fridays on to Sunday evenings,” Hunter Ford. “The availability of people to have some tents set up just really generate that kinda Charleston vibe that I thought the city was trying to go after.”
The city says the rest of the Front Street project should be done by late July.
