Passenger indicted in fatal Pender wreck
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Pender County grand jury has indicted the passenger in a car wreck earlier this month for several counts, including including second-degree murder of his girlfriend.
Investigators believe Lance Powers and Jennie Marie Moore were arguing October 12 when Powers grabbed the steering wheel, leading their car to hit another vehicle head-on as they drove westbound on NC 53. Moore died in the wreck. Four others, including a pregnant woman in the other car were hurt.
Powers, 26, is charged with second-degree murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, battery on an unborn child and driving without a license, according to District Attorney Ben David.
The indictment comes a week after law enforcement charged Powers as he was released from the hospital. He made his first court appearance a couple hours later on a stretcher.
