PB&J leads to bomb scare

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police Department’s bomb squad says a suspicious package was in reality a bag full of food to help the homeless.

A call came in around 12:30 p.m. off of Carolina Beach Road at Lake Shore Drive. Both WPD and WFD crews were on scene investigating a bag that was left with a note. The note, police say, indicated the contents inside were for the homeless.

The WPD bomb unit inspected the bag and determined a peanut butter and jelly sandwich was inside, along with some crackers and other food items.

Police say while this was a kind gesture to help the less fortunate, the best way to donate food is through a food bank.
