Peacemaker prepares to set sail from Port City to Portland

More than 30,000 visitors have toured the Peacemaker during it’s month long stay at the riverfront in downtown Wilmington.

Monday, the boat will leave the Port City to continue its journey north, toward Portland, Maine. The crew says it’s still early in their journey, but it’s off to a good start.

“We actually just started. We finished the rig, so this is one of our first stops and it’s going over pretty good,” said crewmember Yalad Clinton.

Construction on the Peacemaker began in the 1980’s in Brazil.

The boat was finished in Georgia by the 12 Tribes, a religious group that now sails the boat to spread their message.

Sunday is your last chance to tour the ship free of charge before it heads back out to sea.

Tours will run from 10 am until 10 pm.
