Pearl Harbor 75th Anniversary commemoration seeks survivors
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Southeastern NC’s annual Pearl Harbor commemoration marking the 75th anniversary is looking for survivors as it announces it will move inside this year, according to a release.
The ceremony on December 7 will begin at 1:25 p.m., the Wilmington time when the Japanese attack on Hawaii happened.
The event will be inside Wilmington’s Hannah Block Historic USO and Community Arts Center after severe weather in previous years forced its cancellation.
In a release, organizers with the World War II Wilmington Home Front Heritage Coalition say they’re still seeking survivors and witnesses to participate this year.
The event is joined by the dedication of an exhibit in the lobby museum to highly decorated Wilmington native Air Force Lt. Gen. George S. Boylan, Jr.
Survivors are asked to contact Wilbur Jones, chairman of the sponsoring World War II Wilmington Home Front Heritage Coalition at (910) 793-6393 or joneswd@ec.rr.com.
