Pearl Harbor survivors sought for 73rd anniversary commemoration
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A local group that honors the history of World War II is looking for Pearl Harbor survivors for an annual event.
The World War II Wilmington Home Front Heritage Coalition is looking for names and contact info of southeastern North Carolina military survivors and civilian witnesses of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, HI, on Dec. 7, 1941, so they can be part of the upcoming 73rd anniversary commemoration.
“Every other year we learn of a Survivor or witness we hadn’t known of before,” coalition vice chair Doris Ayers said in a news release. “We will continue to remember Pearl Harbor annually here even though the Survivors are dwindling fast.”
The annual commemoration, sponsored by the coalition, falls on Sunday this year. That’s the same day of the week the attack happened. The ceremony is scheduled for 1:25 p.m. at Battleship Park in Wilmington.
If you or someone you know is a Pearl Harbor survivor, contact Ayers at (910) 796-3292 or dayers91@aol.com.
