Pedestrian hit, killed by Amtrak train in Burlington

BURLINGTON, NC (AP) — Burlington police say a pedestrian is dead after being struck by an Amtrak train.

A statement from police says emergency personnel responded to a call on Tuesday and found the body of a man near the tracks.

Amtrak personnel reported seeing the victim walking from one side of the tracks just prior to the accident. The northbound train was approaching the Burlington station at the time of the accident.

Police identified the victim as 25-year-old Franklin D. Gwynn of Burlington.

Last Thursday, two teenagers were killed when they were struck by an Amtrak train as they walked on the tracks south of the Selma-Smithfield station.
