Pedestrian killed in accident on Castle Street


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are investigating after a pedestrian was killed in an accident Wednesday night.

Police say a 63-year-old man was hit by a pickup truck when he ignored traffic signals and stepped into the street in the 600 block of Castle Street just before 7 p.m.

The man was taken to New Hanover County Regional Center, where he died from his injuries.

Witnesses say the man was blocked from view of the driver by a vehicle stopped in the turn lane and that the man ignored traffic signals, darting in front of the truck.

Wilmington Police are consulting the District Attorney’s Office about charges, none have been filed at this time.

Police say there were no passengers reported in the car at the time and that the driver was male.
