Pender County 911 center to get upgrades
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Pender County 911 Center will soon be getting two new upgrades.
Pender County Sheriff Carson Smith said telecommunicators will soon get a new phone system. This is to replace an outdated system that Smith said is about 12-years-old.
Smith said the 911 center will also be getting a new backup PSAP room in the event of an emergency if the primary center stops working. He said the room will be located in the emergency operations building separate from the 911 center in the Sheriff’s Office.
“The telecommunicators can just walk in the room, turn the light switch on,” Smith said. “The computer aided dispatch, the phone system, and the radios are all fully operational at all times.”
Smith said both additions will be fully operational sometime in the early part of the 2016-2017 fiscal year.
