Pender County Clerk of Court indicted on obtaining property by false pretenses charges

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Elizabeth Craver, the Clerk of Court for Pender County, has been indicted on several charges, following a probe by the State Bureau of Investigation.

The investigation began in late 2023, when embezzlement allegations surfaced within the Pender County Clerk of Court’s office.

District Attorney Ben David requested the NC SBI investigate the allegations made against Craver and that a special prosecutor be assigned to advise the SBI and handle any criminal prosecution to avoid a potential conflict of interest.

On Monday, the SBI presented the findings of the investigation to a Pender County grand jury. Craver was arrested, processed, and made her first court appearance Monday afternoon.

Craver was indicted on three counts of felony Obtaining Property by False Pretense and one count of misdemeanor Willful Failure to Discharge Duties.

The North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys will be handling this case.

Craver was released on an unsecured bond.
