PENDER COUNTY: Incumbent sheriff wins primary while redistricting prompts change

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Pender County’s top cop will have another chance at re-election.

Carson Smith again won the Republican nomination for sheriff, picking up more than 70 percent of the vote. He now faces Democrat Scott Lawson this fall.

Redistricting for the Pender County Commission forced two sitting commissioners into the same district.

In the Republican primary David Williams kept control of District 1 after he beat out Chester Ward.
