Pender County Schools pulls plug on electric bus charging station contract with Duke Energy

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — It appears electric buses aren’t in the books for Pender County Schools for the foreseeable future.

The Pender County School board voted to get rid of its contract with Duke Energy for electric bus charging stations at its July 16th meeting.

According to a Pender County Schools spokesperson, that contract would have seen the energy company provide electric bus charging stations at no cost for two years…and then either donate the charging stations to the school system, or sell them to PCS at a greatly reduced cost.

Some school board members were concerned the “greatly reduced cost” amount was not specified.

Brent Springer made motion to kill the contract and board members voted in favor of terminating it.

Pender County Schools does not have any electric buses at this time and there are no plans to get any at this point.
