Pender County’s plan for boat ramp stalled

Pender County‘s plans to purchase a boat ramp in Hampstead is at a stand still.

The county is hoping to purchase about seven acres along Lewis Road for a boat ramp and parking.

Grant money from state agencies would pay for the ramp, but members of the Pecan Grove Homeowners Association filed a lawsuit against the county, claiming the sale would harm the easement’s value.

County commissioners came up with a Plan B to purchase five acres along Moore’s Landing Road.

A ramp would benefit residents in the area traveling to either Wrightsville Beach or Surf City to put their boat in the water.
