Pender County considers banning sex offenders from public parks
Sex offenders may soon be banned from public parks in Pender County.
County Commissioner David Williams plans to address the issue at a meeting about county park and recreation ordinances next week.
He said he decided it was time for such a ban when he spotted a sex offender at a Pop Warner football game.
County residents we spoke to are in support of the ban. “They have no business being here,” said Alexandria Chalman, “if they don’t have kids, they don’t have any business being here. They don’t have any business being around kids. So i think it’s a great law.”
There are currently seventy six registered sex offenders in Pender County.
Last week the Wilmington City Council unanimously passed a similar ban.
