Pender County Humane Society to showcase new building
For the last seven months the Pender County Humane Society has been in a temporary location, but no longer. The new building will be showcased this weekend with a grand opening celebration. It is a welcome relief to everyone involved with the non-profit no-kill shelter.
Shelter manager Debbie Rye calls the new building a dream come true and long overdue. “We rescue animals from animal control, dogs and cats, and we bring them in here and make sure they’re nice and healthy and current on their shots.”
Pender County Human Society President Gloria Johnson said, “Two ladies in Wilmington challenged us to raise $50,000, which we did in July of last year. They matched the $50,000 to make this dream a possibility.”
The Pender Humane Society will hold an open house Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the new location on Highway 53 just west of Burgaw. The new shelter is behind the Furry Friends Resale Shop. It officially opens on Monday.
