Pender school leaders don’t like Perdue’s budget
ROCKY POINT, NC (WWAY) — The Pender County School District held a luncheon today to voice its opinion about Gov. Bev Perdue’s proposed budget. The district hoped to address its concerns to state Representatives Sandra Spaulding Hughes and Carolyn Justice, but only Sen. R.C. Soles attended today’s meeting.
Many people came out to discuss and evaluate where possible cuts would be in the school system if Perdue’s budget goes through. The school system’s finance director says about nine percent of full-time teachers could be cut due to budget reductions. Many say they’ve suffered enough from past budget cuts.
“We feel like we’ve cut just about everything that we can cut,” Superintendent Allison Sholar said. “Across the board it’s just a double whammy across the board as far as support for our teachers and for out students.”
Budget reductions could also mean no money for textbooks, limited funds for technology and fewer school materials.
