Penderlea, Brunswick County Early College High to close early Monday


SOUTHEASTERN, NC (WWAY) — More schools are closing early Monday, before the solar eclipse.

Penderlea School in Pender County will release students at noon. The school district says safety is their top priority and reminds parents that appropriate eye protection is needed to watch the eclipse.

PACES afterschool care will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Pender Early College High School will operate on a normal schedule.

In Brunswick County, Early College High School will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. on Monday. Brunswick County Schools says the decision was based on the timing of the eclipse, which placed students on buses or cars close to the peak of the event. All Early College students will receive certified solar glasses prior to leaving school, but should be home in time to watch the eclipse.

Student athletes in Brunswick County should not arrive at school for practice prior to 5:30 p.m. Practices will begin no earlier than 6:00 p.m.

Brunswick Community College will close Monday from noon until 5:00 p.m.

James Sprunt Community College will close at noon.

Roger Bacon Academy already announced their four charter schools would close early, as are all year-round schools in New Hanover County.
