People in Wilmington reflect on Ferguson
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Folks gathered in Downtown Wilmington to make their voices heard about what is happening in Ferguson, MO.
Even through the soft glow of a candlelight vigil the reality of what’s happening in Ferguson is harsh.
“The issues that we face are multi-dimensional issues,” said Kevin Spears. He joined several dozen other folks in Downtown for a solidarity event as they called it.
“We have to have that conversation we have to keep having that conversation that removes doubt,” he said.
It’s doubt that he thinks led to Michael Browns death. Some attendees had close ties to the Ferguson area.
“You wouldn’t ever think of it as a place for a revolution to start like that ever,” said Roxanne Kirtright. She lived in
Ferguson for a time. She says she saw the revolution start in August. After last night left her feeling sick, she organized this event.
Michael Browns death was a moment that engaged a nation and started a revolution perhaps. More importantly though, it sparked a conversation that these folks hope to continue.
