Perdue asks for more federal help; New Hanover not on list

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Gov. Bev Perdue has asked FEMA to add counties to its disaster declaration request for recovery, including derbis removal, after Hurricane Irene. The list includes several counties in our area, including Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, Onslow and Pender.

New Hanover County was not on the list, meaning it is unlikely the county will get federal help with debris clean-up.

The governor said she is moving aggressively to make sure families, businesses and communities receive the assistance they need to help recover from the storm,

President Obama approved the first request on Wednesday for counties in northeastern North Carolina.
