Perdue backs Obama
RALEIGH (AP) — An adviser says Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue is backing Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Perdue consultant Mac McCorkle says Perdue will vote for Obama in the May 6 primary.
Perdue’s principal opponent for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in the primary, State Treasurer Richard Moore, endorsed Obama last month.
McCorkle says Perdue likes Obama and Hillary Clinton, but has been swayed by Obama’s message of hope and accountability.
Moore yesterday publicized his endorsement by a union group, the state chapter of UNITE HERE, a union representing textile workers, hotel employees and restaurant workers nationwide.
The union has 5,000 members in North Carolina.
Perdue has received most of the high-profile endorsements in the campaign.
