Perdue signs film incentive bill

North Carolina’s film industry just became a little more competitive. Thursday morning, Governor Bev Perdue put pen to paper, signing a bill that will boost the film tax credit from 15 to 25 percent.

Companies must spend a minimum of $ 250,000 on production costs in the state to be eligible for the tax credit.

The bill also sets minimum spending requirements for qualifying film companies working in the state.

Governor Perdue said this legislation is vital to the growth of the state’s motion picture industry and will preserve thousands of jobs for North Carolina residents.

It goes into effect in January.
