Perdue travels around NC to talk up road projects

RALEIGH — Gov. Beverly Perdue wants citizens to know where North Carolina’s share of the federal stimulus money will be used.

Perdue plans to visit the Charlotte area, Piedmont and Down East on Tuesday to announce where work through the first round of infrastructure projects paid through the federal stimulus package will be done.

The state Department of Transportation says at least $838 million in stimulus money will repair bridges and roads or pay for other transit projects. DOT has said it wants to let construction contracts by June for the first half of its federal money for bridges and highways.

Perdue said Monday she’ll soon unveil a Web site tracking how the state’s $6.1 billion share of the stimulus is spent.
