Perdue wants to pay back state workers for ’09 cut

Gov. Bev Perdue wants to repay state workers for taking away part of their salaries last year. The News & Observer of Raleigh reports Perdue wants to return the half percent pay cut she required of state employees and teachers to close a budget gap.

The shortfall is expected to be smaller this year, and Perdue already has returned public money she used to eliminate last year’s gap.

The governor also told the newspaper she expects no pay raises for the second straight year.
