Perdue’s campaign: She’s still running in 2012
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Gov. Bev Perdue’s campaign staff has dismissed a comment by a North Carolina state House member who
predicted she won’t run for re-election next year.
Rep. Bill Faison of Orange County – a Democrat like Perdue – said Tuesday her current campaign organization doesn’t look like one that’s seriously aiming for another four-year term for governor. Faison said Monday’s indictments of two workers from Perdue’s 2008 campaign and a close family friend on campaign finance-related charges also are a distraction for her office.
Perdue campaign manager Fiona Conroy responded by saying the governor is running for re-election.
Faison says he would consider running for governor if Perdue stepped aside, but he said no decision has been made.
Senate Democratic leader Martin Nesbitt said he supports Perdue’s re-election campaign.
