Pets are no longer SADD after Salty Paws

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Pooches of all shapes and sizes can now sleep a little more soundly. Saturday was the second annual Salty Paws Festival put on by SADD, or Saving Animals During Disasters. The day was anything but sad for pets and people, as pets and their humans enjoyed the gorgeous weather and all the fun, food and festivities set up around Carolina Beach Lake. Participants enjoyed hanging out with their own dogs and getting to meet others, and participating veterinarians were able to help save some dogs from any future disasters.

Dog owner Erin Griffin said, “I love having all the dogs out and being able to see all of them in their little costumes, and all the local vendors and jewelry and food.”

Veterinarian Christopher Coble said, “Oh, I think it’s incredibly beneficial for SADD, Saving Animals During Disasters, the name says it all. We’ve done 38 dogs so far, and I doubt any of those dogs will ever be lost for good. They’ll find their way home.”

SADD is dedicated to aiding in the rescue and care of natural and man-made disaster-stricken animals. Doctor Coble says micro-chipping is a fail proof method to relocate a dog with its owner.
