BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A close call for a pilot flying into Elizabethtown Airport on Thursday afternoon.

According the Elizabethtown Fire Department, crews were called to the Curtis L. Brown Airport just after 12pm.

When they arrived, they found a small single-engine airplane just off the runway in a small ditch.

The pilot was the only person on board and was injured.

Elizabethtown Fire says the pilot was conducting normal “touch and go” flight operations when the plane experienced a hard landing, which caused the rear landing gear to fail.
