Pine Valley Elementary students donate books to orphanage in India
WILMINGTON — Some underprivileged children around the world in India will be getting lots of new reading material thanks to students from Pine Valley Elementary.
The local kids collected 7,716 books, including everything from children stories to poetry. The volumes will be shipped to an orphanage in Kochi on India’s southwest coast where they will distributed to 70 young girls.
Pine Valley students say they’re happy to help.
Madison McDermott donated 78 books. She said, “I wanted to help the needy children and I didn’t want them to be sad that they didn’t have anything.”
Madison Tyler donated 77 books. She said, “I think that they’re going to learn a lot of English and that they’re going to feel really touched that somebody helped them out.”
Right now the books are being boxed up and will be sent by boat to India in June.
