Pirates and land lovers alike try to preserve Old Baldy

Bald Head Island is a secluded vacation paradise. Normally it’s peaceful, but Friday the island was full of pirates.

It’s all for a worthy project, the preservation of the state’s oldest standing lighthouse.

“The pirates are helping us put us put money into our preservation funds. We’re doing several preservation projects around the old baldy lighthouse. We’ve got the oil building that was built in the 1800s. It needs new doors and windows, and the lighthouse itself always needs maintenance since it’s 192 years old now,” said Ann Mills, the executive director of the Old Baldy foundation.
