Playoff Preview: Round 3 of high school football

Pender High School won their first two playoff games at home, but the Patriots have to hit the road for Round 3 on Friday. The Southwest Onslow Stallions will host Pender in a 1-AA playoff contest. The winner of this game will face the Trask High School – Goldsboro winner in the eastern 1-AA finals. For the third week in a row, Trask will have to play on the road.

On the 1-A level, Wallace-Rose Hill will entertain Plymouth. On the 2-A level, Whiteville hits the road to face Tarboro and undefeated East Bladen will try to hold off the Jordan Matthews Jets. Over the last two weeks East Bladen has scored 92 points – the Jets have 102.

Last, but not least, New Hanover will have their hands full with a road playoff game against Southern Durham. Wildcat head coach Kevin Motsinger is thrilled to get this far, but he wants more. “We had a ten win season, third round of the playoffs, which is the first time since 1991 and first time since 1992 so that’s a complement to the kids,” he said.

WWAY’s John Rendleman will have all the highlights Friday night at 11:00 on the 5th Quarter.
