PNC ‘Broadway and the Beach’ 2024-25 season announced live on WWAY
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A big announcement was made Tuesday afternoon live on WWAY.
The 2024-25 PNC ‘Broadway and the Beach’ season was revealed during the 12:30 p.m. news.
The new season has eight shows with 22 performances from October of this year through June of 2025.
Community Day will be held on May 4th from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Wilson Center, offering tickets to all the shows.
This is before the online rush, so plenty of tickets will be available, including $25 tickets to every show.
Here’s a look at all the shows, with descriptions of each, provided by the Wilson Center:
The Addams Family
The Addams Family is a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family. It features an original story and it’s every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smarty young man from a respectable family. A man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.
Tina – The Tina Turner Musical
The story of Tina Turner, a musical. Celebrate the unstoppable woman that dared to dream fiercely, shatter barriers, and conquer the world – against all odds. Will include the hits: What’s Love Got To Do With It, Proud Mary, Private Dancer, and River Deep. The official website advises that it is recommended for ages 14+ and that there will be “scenes depicting domestic violence, racist language, loud music, strobe lighting, haze, and gun shots.”
Hadestown
Broadway’s Tony and Grammy-winning best musical. Tells the “intertwining love stories” of two couples from the Greek Myths: they young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and King Hades and Persephone. Hadestown asks audiences to imagine how the world could be, and invites audiences on an unforgettable journey to the underworld and back.
Ain’t Too Proud
Electrifying new musical about The Temptations’ extraordinary journey from the streets of Detroit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: how they met, the groundbreaking heights they hit, and how personal and political conflicts threatened to tear the group apart as the United States fell into civil unrest. This thrilling story of brotherhood, family, loyalty and betrayal is se to the beat of the groups treasured hits, including My Girl, Just My Imagination, Get Ready, Papa Was a Rolling Stone. Signature dance moves and unmistakable harmonies included!
Dear Evan Hansen
The winner of 6 Tony Awards, the Grammy Award, and the Olivier Award for Best Musical, Dear Evan Hansen is the deeply personal and profoundly contemporary musical about life and the way we live it. A brilliant commentary on teen mental health and the dangers of social media, a darkly humorous take on a loveably relatable family in crisis, and a “breathtaking knockout of a musical,” according to the New York Times.
Mystic Pizza
Mystic Pizza follows the coming of age of three young women working as waitresses at a local pizza parlor in Mystic, Connecticut. Struggling within a local class structure that segregates the immigrant working class from the country club set, the women strive to define themselves beyond the shadow of their families and the men who pursue them.
Based on the 1988 movie of the same name, which starred Julia Roberts in her breakout role.
The Book of Mormon
God’s favorite musical! The Book of Mormon is musical theater that tells the story of a pair of mismatched Mormon missionaries, one serious and dedicated and the other socially awkward yet well-meaning, who are sent to Uganda to convert citizens to the Mormon religion.
Now on Broadway for its 13th year, The Book of Mormon has won nine Tony Awards and has toured in 40 US states, six Canadian provinces, and 134 cities across the globe.
Clue
Clue is a hilarious new play based on the cult 1985 Paramount movie and inspired by the classic Hasbro game.
The tale begins at a remote mansion, where six mysterious guests assemble for an unusual dinner party where murder and blackmail are on the menu. When their host turns up dead, they all become suspects. Led by Wadsworth – the butler, Miss Scarlett, Professor Plum, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock and Colonel Mustard race to find the killer as the body count stacks up.
Clue is purely entertaining, fast-paced slapstick comedy that leaves both cult-fans and newcomers in stitches.
