Police: Fugitive from South Carolina arrested in Hillcrest community
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police arrested a man in the Hillcrest community who they say was wanted in South Carolina for failing to appear on charges he faces there.
Police say they arrested Demitrius Lamur Slaughter, 22, just before 9 p.m. Wednesday after they spotted him parking his car in an area of the Hillcrest community. They say when Slaughter got out of his vehicle, he tried to avoid police while walking through the neighborhood.
When officers with the Wilmington Police Department’s Vice and Narcotics Unit arrested Slaughter, they say they found 15 bindles of heroin, 9 grams of marijuana, paraphernalia and a large amount of cash on him.
Police say they seized Slaughter’s car, and found out he was already wanted on warrants in South Carolina for failure to appear in court on drug charges there. Slaughter was booked in the New Hanover County Jail under a $11,000 bond.
