Police investigating fatal crash on Market Street

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are investigating an early morning crash on Market Street that left one man dead.

Police said the accident happened just before 3 a.m. Sunday.

A spokeswoman for the department said a car was traveling West near the 2600 block of Market Street when it crossed the center line and hit a taxi head-on. The taxi’s driver its and passengers all had minor injuries, but the driver of the other car was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are still investigating the crash but said speed and alcohol appear to have contributed to the accident.
